As gyms are temporarily closed, we’ve shifted our usual gym workouts to home workouts! That said, home workouts aren’t as easy as we think. Some days it’s hard to find motivation, the energy to get ourselves off the couch and then we have to figure out what to actually do, so many have turned to virtual personal trainers. Not sure if a virtual personal trainer is for you? Read on!
What is a Virtual Workout?
There are two types of virtual workouts with a personal trainer. There’s class style HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts and 1-on-1 workouts. The best workout for you is the type of workout you like and enjoy the most.
If you like working out in groups with laser beam focus, class style workouts are your pick. If you like receiving more feedback and if you’re a conversationalist, then 1-on-1 is for you. Regardless of whatever style is for you, both workouts will leave you sweating!
How Does it Work?
Virtual workouts are essentially the same as a regular workout. Instead of doing the workout face to face in the gym, they’re done screen to screen in your home. They can be hosted on either Zoom or Facetime, whichever is easiest for you.
What’s it Like?
It’s actually quite enjoyable. And I’m not just saying that because I’m a trainer, I promise. I’m like everyone else – we all like working out with other people, we all love connection. I’ve found that it’s easier to talk your way out of reps, sets and exercises when you’re working out alone versus working out with someone else. A lot of clients like working out with a trainer because it keeps them accountable. Over the course of quarantine I’ve done 1 to 2 workouts a week with other trainers to keep me accountable on days that I’m feeling tired and low on energy. They’ve made the difference between me having an okay day or an incredible day.
Think about your workout with a virtual personal trainer like working out with a friend who will push you and give you an energy boost. In a virtual personal training session, you have feel-good music, exercise made simple and by the time you know it, your workout is done and you’ve accomplished something special for yourself. You’ve celebrated your health and now you’re ready to tackle the day with extra pep in your step.
Do I Need Equipment?
Good personal trainers can modify the workout so that no equipment is needed while still achieving an amazing sweat. Virtual workouts with a personal trainer are catered to you, your movement capabilities for that day, and the equipment you have available. So, if that’s dumbbells, a chair or just a towel, you’re good to-go!
Will I Get Results from a Virtual Workout?
Just like anything, the more you commit, the more results you’ll see. But if you’re just looking for a one-off session with a virtual personal trainer that works too. Sometimes it’s nice to change things up. A workout with a virtual personal trainer doesn’t mean long-term. Play it by ear, go session by session and if you like it, great, if not, no biggie! Either way, one session or a few sessions, you’ll be sure to leave sweating and feeling good from the comfort of your own home.
