The Newest Beauty Trend: Oats

BeautySkin CareThe Newest Beauty Trend: Oats

We love a good beauty trend, and one we’re seeing lately is actually a classic staple – oats! From poison ivy to eczema, oats have been used to soothe dry, irritated skin for ages.

Why Oats?

Oats may look dry, but they’re actually moisturizing because of the natural oils, starches, and sugars that offer emollient properties.

Oats are also absorbent (think of how much water you add to your morning oatmeal!) so they work well as cleansers that can absorb and remove excess oil, makeup, and dirt from your skin.

Finally, they’re great at soothing irritated skin. Oats can bind to the skin, providing a protective barrier against irritants. This is why we use it for things like poison ivy and eczema!

How Can I Use Oats in My Beauty Routine?

Unfortunately you can’t start adding whole oats into your beauty routines – you just won’t see the benefits. Whole oats need to be finely ground so that they can properly interact with your skin. Think about some of your favourite beauty products with oats – they’re not whole oats, they’re tiny particles you probably can’t even see!

For a DIY way to use oats in your beauty routine, we’ve love these seven DIY Oatmeal Face Masks from HelloGlow. If you’d prefer a serum to get really targeted benefits, we’ve outlined our favourites below.
