Skip Into Spring with These Makeup Tips

The weather outside is getting warmer. Our layers are getting lighter. It’s time to revamp our makeup routines and embrace the soft, glowing looks of the spring season. We asked our fave makeup experts, Lori Fabrizio and Valeria Nova from Two Chicks and Some Lipstick to give us a few winter-to-spring makeup tips.

The easiest way to celebrate the warm weather is to experiment with lighter textures in makeup. Winter makeup tends to be darker, heavier, more matte with the use of dark lipsticks, pale foundations and heavy cream products.

Tip #1: Lighten and Brighten

Try swapping your foundation for something lighter like a BB Cream or a mineral powder. Not only will your skin have a luminosity to it, but most BB Creams and mineral powders have the extra benefit of an added SPF.

Tip #2: Illuminate Your Pout

Put your dark cherry lipstick and liner away. Spring is the perfect time to reconnect with a brighter colors and sheerer finishes. Make sure to gently exfoliate lips regularly to keep them soft and smooth. Try a nourishing lip gloss in a light peachy/pink/nude shade. Worn alone, just after exfoliation, a gloss infused with essential oils can nourish and protect your lips. Plus, they’ll look perfectly kissable!

Tip #3: Do Away with the Smoke

Smokey liner is a great way to define your eyes. Plus they’re so sexy! Come spring, set aside your deep plums and blacks. Replace the dark shades for beautiful bronzes and golds and glow, glow, glow! Using a shimmery bronze liner and shadow with just a few coats of mascara is an easy way to brighten your face while accentuating your eyes.

Tip #4: Get On Your Glow

Use a highlighter and add a natural, J-Lo worthy glow to your complexion. You can try a cream or powder highlighter. Just make sure to look for a finish that is more gold than silver (silver can sometimes read very white on the skin); light buttery gold champagne shades are perfect. Then strategically place a tiny bit of highlighter to the inside corner of your eyes, along your check and brow bones.

Tip #5: Brighten Your Blush

Adding a pop of peach-y pink to your cheeks is such a fun way to liven your complexion! Make sure not to use too much at once. Sheer layers is an easy way to apply blush – you can always add more! Added too much? Add a dusting of powder and your blush will go back to natural.
