DR. CRYSTAL CHANDERBHAN, NATUROPATHIC DOCTOR Now that you’ve survived the holiday festivities, thoughts about “editing and undoing” some of the damage done via a detox may be swirling around your head. Incorporating a daily detox smoothie is an easy way to ease into the process. I will be providing you with three detox smoothie recipes this week.  These smoothies should be ideally taken for breakfast or in the afternoon between 3-5pm. You will notice that chia seeds and hemp hearts are present in all 3 recipes. By combining these two in the amounts specified, we achieve a bonus of approximately 15g of protein and 14g of fibre per smoothie. This has many benefits, which includes helping you feel fuller longer, controls blood sugar, reduces cholesterol, diminishes sugar cravings, and can contribute to weight loss. First up, my "Green Zen" smoothie! Be sure to check out my Liver Restore and Berry Boost detox smoothie recipes as well.

JENNA FLICK (D.S Hom Med) HOMEOPATHIC PRACTITIONER AND CATEGORY MANAGER AT WELL.CA

I am a mom of two young kids and I know firsthand just how hard it is to keep them safe from those dreaded winter germs. In our house when one of us gets sick, it passes on to the next person and then the next and then we end up with a 6 week cycle just to start all over again. As a trained Homeopathic Practitioner and an informed Mom, I have a few tips that I follow to prevent my kids from getting sick.

Heading into cold and flu season, we can all use all the help we can get in dodging germs. However, you do not have to look far, the helping hand can come from a humble culinary herb we use day in and day out. Many of us sprinkle oregano into our cooking without realizing it actually bears impressive health benefits. The oil from the oregano herb is proving to be a natural remedy with antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties that can help you fight off infections and stay healthy. The main components of oregano oil are the phenols, carvacrol and thymol which give oil of oregano its potent antiseptic and antioxidant properties. It also contains terpenes, pinene and terinene, which contribute to the antiseptic, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties.
