Celebrate Mother’s Day this year with a big family brunch around the table! It’s mom’s big day so help her indulge on delicious foods like pancakes, eggs, chocolate, cookies and more. You can’t go wrong with a sweet and savoury spread – and bonus points if mom doesn’t have to do any of the cooking!
The secret to creating the perfect Mother’s Day brunch is to serve a wide variety of foods and drinks, so the whole family (mom included, of course) will have something they love. This may take more planning than a typical brunch, but the extra effort will be well worth it. To help you get started, we’ve broken mom’s special meal into 4 easy steps.
- Set the Table to Set the Mood
Help mom feel special with a beautifully set table. Keep a colour scheme in mind to help things feel cohesive and add a cute personal touch with handwritten place cards (or doodles) from the kids.
Use proper plates and reusable napkins instead of paper or plastic to dress up your table. We love Now Designs Napkins in Botanica, and consider adding a candle or two if you don’t have young kids around – like this Murphy & Jo Candle Co. in Fig & Honey!
Don’t forget to add a bouquet of mom’s favourite flowers as the centerpiece—or, if you’re worried about littles knocking it over, place a flower by everyone’s place cards.
- Start with Drinks
Before any food is served, make sure mom has her favourite drink of choice on hand. For hot drinks like coffee or tea, surprise her with a new mug, like this Yeti Rambler Mug in Coral (especially perfect for Instagram-savvy moms).
Other great drink options for brunch are caesars (don’t forget to rim her glass) or mimosas. These Stemless Flutes from Corkcicle are adorable and perfect for a bit of bubbly. For a unique alcohol-free option, offer Seedlip Distilled Non-Alcoholic Spirits, or fun mocktails the whole family can enjoy.
- Serve a Sweet and Savoury Spread
Show mom your love with a delicious spread with lots of sweet and salty/savoury options. Variety is key here! Pancakes are a great kid-friendly option—spruce up classic pancakes and waffles by adding some chocolate chips or blueberries. For an adult-only crowd, try something fun like chocolate protein pancakes. Don’t forget to serve your stacks with real maple syrup—we love Escuminac Great Harvest Maple Syrup for its rich flavour.
Another fun brunch option is yogurt with granola and fruit, as it’s totally customizable. Chop up lots of fresh fruit (or dried fruit), and serve with honey and/or nut & seed butters for everyone to drizzle on top. Splurge on gourmet granola to make it extra special—we love anything from One Degree, but especially their Cinnamon Flax Seed Granola!
And of course, for the savoury side, no brunch would be complete without eggs. To save time, try making an egg casserole or something easy like the One-Pan Crispy Bacon and Asparagus with Baked Eggs recipe featured here. Scrambled eggs are also quick and easy and, while over-easy eggs may be slightly trickier, they’re worth it to be able to make a cute egg yolk smiley face on her plate.
Instead of putting a bunch of condiment bottles on the table, consider adding them to these colourful Pinch Bowls from Now Designs—they’ll take up less space on the table, and look much cuter!
- Follow Up with Mom’s Favourite Tea & Treats
End mom’s special meal on a sweet note with her favourite tea and treats. Not sure what mom’s favourite tea is? Opt for a calming, caffeine-free tea like Organic Serenity Now from DAVIDsTEA or Chamomile Vanilla Manuka Honey Tea from Pukka to help her relax and enjoy being spoiled.
For treats, chocolate fondue is a fun option that is sure to impress—but cookies are great too! We love Duchy Originals Organic Highland Shortbread, and Tutti Gourmet Cocoa & Almond Biscotti (so good!). If Mom has a particularly sweet sweet-tooth, she’ll love these Cartwright & Butler Ultra Thick Milk Chocolate Salted Caramel Tin. Go ahead and order a few boxes of each, this is her big day to indulge.
There you have it—the recipe for the perfect Mother’s Day brunch! It might even end up being such a hit with mom that you repeat it on a random weekend morning! Because after all, mom deserves being celebrated all year long.
