Happy Earth Month! We’re trying to use this month to think about how we make greener choices for ourselves and our families. Neither of us is 100% green (who is?) but we both shop green as much as we can and try to be mindful of the impact that the choices we make have on the environment. If you want to make the switch to using more green and natural products, it can be tough to know where to start. To help, we want to share some of our green and natural faves that have become staples in our homes over the years.

The Honest Company Dishwasher Packs

We’re big fans of all things Honest, but we especially love these because they’re just as easy to use as conventional dishwasher packs. When it comes to making the switch to green, there’s a misconception that things will be way harder and more complicated to use…but the only difference between these and conventional dishwasher packs is that there’s no risk of harsh chemical residue being left behind on your dishes.

Penny Lane Organics 100% Natural Deodorant Pink Grapefruit

This natural deodorant is a 2015 Clean Beauty Awards Winner and made by 2016 Green Choice Award winner Penny Lane Organics (you voted it Top Trending Brand and Top Canadian brand) so you know it’s good! We love that it’s made with 4 simple ingredients that we can actually recognize (pink grapefruit essential oil, organic cornstarch, coconut oil, and baking soda in case you were wondering), and that it comes in an easy to use stick.

ANDALOU Naturals All-in-One Brightening Sheer Tint Beauty Balm

Erin discovered this BB cream when she went away last year, and it’s been a staple ever since. It’s a great example of how amazing green beauty products can be – it gives you perfect light coverage and a dewy glow, it’s moisturizing, it’s packed with moisturizers and antioxidants to improve your skin…and it just happens to be eco-friendly, non-GMO, cruelty-free, and made with fair trade and organic ingredients.

Udo’s Choice Adult’s Probiotic

One of Rebecca’s main resolutions this year is to take her vitamins and supplements, and we’ve both been making a point to take probiotics regularly, so this one’s become a fast favourite. It’s vegetarian-friendly, yeast-free, and gluten-free, so it’s great for pretty much everyone to take, and since it helps improve your digestion, it helps make you feel less lethargic and sluggish.

Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen

We’re so excited that this is available now at Well.ca! And so are you, clearly, because it’s been extremely popular.  We’re really choosy about what we use on our children – especially when they have sensitive skin. We both love this sunscreen because it’s dermatologist recommended, water resistant, and made without any harmful chemicals. Plus it goes on smooth and is never oily or greasy, so no complaints from the kids!

S’well Bottle

There’s no surprise that this made our list of faves. If you’re not familiar with the S’well bottle, do yourself a favour and get one ASAP! They’re made of stainless steel, they keep your drink cold for a full 24 hours, and they’re perfect for trips, workouts, or just on the go during the day. They come in tons of colours and prints, but our favourite right now is this brand new rose gold number.

Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

What don’t we use coconut oil for? It’s amazing for baking and cooking with (try it in Erin’s kid-approved DIY Granola Bar recipe!), it’s great for adding a dose of moisture to parched hair and skin, and we’ve also been using it in some of our favourite essential oil DIY projects.  This one won  the top Food & Snacks spot in this year’s Green Choice Awards. We love that it’s non-GMO, cold-pressed, and made from fresh coconuts, so it’s got a great subtle coconut flavour.

Original Sprout Hair & Body Babywash

Some of our kids have super sensitive skin, and this is an essential. It’s gentle on their delicate skin, and is ultra moisturizing so it’s great for diaper rash, heat rash, psoriasis, cradle cap, eczema, and all kinds of skin irritations. It’s also great for adults, so if we’ll use it ourselves if we’re battling dry skin (especially in the winter months).

Manduka eKO Lite Mat 4mm Isabella

Rebecca started using this mat earlier this year for her at-home yoga routine (try her go-to sequence here), and now it’s a staple for both of our at-home workouts. It’s developed by yoga teachers, so you know it can hold up to your toughest yoga sessions (even hot yoga). But we also love it because it’s made from biodegradable, sustainably sourced rubber so that you can feel good about protecting the planet while you practice.
