Taking care of your skin can be a little confusing, especially in the winter. How do you use heavy creams if you have acne? What if you already have dry skin? I feel your pain! But with a few skin care tweaks, having soft, glowing skin is totally possible!
Skip the Activated Charcoal
While you might think activated charcoal is your key to clear skin, it’s best to avoid during the colder months.
Activated charcoal works by absorbing the excess oil in your skin, which is great if you’re dealing with over-active oil glands. But in the winter, you want to keep your natural oils so they can moisturize and nourish your skin.
Stay Away From the Heater
When it’s cold outside, you probably want to cozy up near the heater. But that heat has a drying effect on your skin, which can cause irritation and itchiness. The drying effect can also throw your skin’s moisture levels off balance, which means you might have a few more spots pop up.
So instead of getting next to the heater, cozy up with a warm, cotton blanket, and a cup of tea!
Stay Hydrated
In the summer, it’s easy to drink enough water because it’s hot and you’re probably much more active. But in the winter, it might not be your priority, which means it’s a lot easier for your skin to become dehydrated. And when you’re already dealing with drying weather conditions, you don’t want to throw in dehydration as well.
There are a lot of ways to make sure you’re drinking enough water. You can track it on your planner or phone, or write it on a sticky note. But if you want to keep things simple, just make sure you always have a water bottle with you. Take it in your car, to the store, to the gym, and keep it on your desk. When water is available you’ll be much more likely to stay hydrated!

Try a Vitamin C Serum
During the winter, our skin often becomes dull and flaky. While you’ll want to use an exfoliator at least once a week, it’s also a great idea to add a brightening vitamin C serum. Not only will this brighten your skin, but it can even your skin tone, soothe inflammation, and protect your skin from free radical damage.
Use Moisturizing Products
This is one of the best things you can do for your skin – opt for moisturizing, anti-inflammatory skin care products that will soothe and nourish your skin.
If you have oily or acne-prone skin, you’re probably wondering why you should be using lots of moisturizing products. But I assure you, if your skin is properly moisturized, your skin will be much more balanced and protected, which means you’ll be less likely to have new spots. Trust me, moisturizing is one of the best things you can do for your skin!
To get started, use a cream or oil based cleanser to gently remove makeup while also moisturizing, followed by a moisturizing toner. Then you can use either the vitamin C serum or a hyaluronic acid serum, depending on what your skin needs. You could even mix the two, or use the hyaluronic serum in the morning and the vitamin c serum at night!
After your serum, you’ll want to use a really good face cream. The meow meow tweet Face + Body Cream is my favourite – it’s the best cream for dry, irritated skin, and you can use it all over so your whole body is soothed and nourished.
With proper care and a few new rituals, you can have your best skin this winter!
