Spring is just around the corner!
Sunlight is stretching longer, temperatures are getting warmer, and I. Am. Loving it!
But with Spring comes that dreaded task-that-shall-not-be-named…Spring Cleaning! *cue internal panic*. Whether you’re spring cleaning your home, your skin care routine, or your entire beauty regimen, it’s important to consider the products you’re using. You want to make sure that your cleaning products are…well…clean!
With that said, there seem to be a lot of false assumptions about green and natural products. Let’s get into the dirty details of the green clean:
Myth: Green & Natural Products are Expensive
Green and natural products do not have to be expensive.
Just like conventional products, green and natural options fall within a wide spectrum of price points. Like with anything, some products will be more expensive, but you get to choose how much you spend. Want to check it out for yourself? Try looking at this natural daily use conditioner by Live Clean that’s only $7.79 a bottle! Check out other brands such as Dr. Bronner’s, Andalou Naturals, and ATTITUDE for more natural options that won’t break your bank!
Myth: They Don’t Work That Well
Myth: It doesn’t lather, so it must not work…
Reality: It doesn’t lather, so it may be working better than ever!
Lather from your favourite conventional shampoo comes from sulfates. Sulfates are a foaming agent that removes dirt and grime from hair. Unfortunately, sulfates also strip your hair of any and all natural oils, which are needed to keep your hair soft and healthy.
Sulfate-free products still contain cleansing ingredients, but they’re not as intense, so while they might not lather as well, they also aren’t as damaging to your hair.
Myth: I use products that say no artificial colours or additives, so that’s good enough right?
Maybe not…Just because it doesn’t have any additional bad stuff, doesn’t mean it doesn’t have any bad stuff.
If you’re looking for a quality product that’s going to do good by you, vague claims like “no artificial additives” are not enough.
Instead of looking at what is not in the product, look for what is. Look at the ingredients to check for harmful ingredients such as parabens, silicones, phthalates, and others, or look out for positive claims such as ‘plant-derived’. Make sure you’re aware of what ingredients you’re putting on your body (or your countertop!).
Myth: All Natural Products are Created Equal
It’s important to look beyond claims made on the label.
‘Natural’ is a great callout, but it’s important that we remember to look beyond individual claims and get more granular. What exactly makes this product natural? Remember to check out the ingredients to ensure you know exactly where this product is coming from, and what it can do for you.
Myth: Buying Green and Natural is inconvenient because you can’t find the products anywhere
