Please meet Tara Bosch, the 23 yr old founder of SmartSweets. The first candy to kick sugar!

How and why did SmartSweets get started?

Growing up, I had an unhealthy relationship with food, which affected my self-esteem and body image. As I got older, it became apparent that healthy relationships in all aspects of life come from smaller, smarter choices. In a conversation with my grandmother, I learned that she regretted consuming so much excess sugar over the years, especially from one of our favorite treats, candy. She shared how the effects of sugar on her health have impacted her quality of life. It was this conversation, coupled with my personal journey, that sparked my exploration into the shocking reality of sugar and how it’s affecting society in a dramatic way. Equipped with my belief that we should feel good about enjoying the foods we love, I bought a gummy bear mold from Amazon and began recipe testing in my kitchen on a quest to create the first candy that kicks sugar.

What is the mission/goal of SmartSweets?

Our mission is to kick sugar, keep candy, and create a movement based on smaller, smarter choices. Our vision is to become the global leader in innovating smart confectionary products that kick sugar. Imagine being able to go to your local grocery stores candy aisle, choosing your favourite candy product and being able to actually feel good about enjoying it. SmartSweets goal is to be the brand delivering on creating that experience for consumers.

Why is SmartSweets so unique?

With a mission and vision directly informed by the negative impacts sugar has on our health, SmartSweets has a unique authenticity: addressing sugar naturally is at the core of our ‘why’ and building a community around that based on kicking sugar.

What plans do you have for SmartSweets future?

Just 1 year since the first bag of SmartSweets hit store shelves, we have experienced rocket-ship growth and are continuing to drive innovation through development of new products, while expanding rapidly to increase accessibility to our products on store shelves for consumers. It’s been incredible to hear stories through social media of people passionate about kicking sugar.
